DRI is moving to establish a local co-operative where local and other Tasmania’s can become share holders. Cooperatives can offer Tasmania many advantages for they:
– offer solutions to several of these local economy problems.
– Cooperatives operate on a “one vote per shareholder” basis, meaning that a cooperative which is largely locally owned will be locally controlled.
-Cooperatives can raise funds from shareholders (members) without needing a prospectus and without relying on sophisticated investors or the 2/12/20 rule
-DRI intends to start a cooperative in order to:
-Raise funds to further its economic development objectives; and
-Ensure that the businesses it promotes are locally controlled.
