Current Tenders

A Tender for the Preliminary Engineering of a Wood Pellet Production Plant will soon be open.

Background.

Dorset Renewable Industries P/L (DRI) was started by members of the North East Tasmania community with the objective of establishing new industries for the region, with emphasis on forestry resources. Our focus is on developments which:
• are truly sustainable – capable of being continued indefinitely; and
• have substantial local ownership or control.
DRI have obtained a grant under the Tasmanian Jobs and Growth Package to purchase and refurbish the former saw milling site at Ling Siding, Tasman Highway, Scottsdale. Practical completion for this project is likely to be by the end of 2016, with major elements of the site being available for occupancy well before that. DRI wish to attract existing and new timber processing businesses to the site, with a range of businesses working together, passing resources to each other and sharing some common services. DRI plans to attract existing businesses and to encourage and support new ones.

Objectives of this Work.

DRI wants the successful tenderer to undertake the preliminary engineering for a pellet plant that will:

• produce around 4,000 to 6,000 tonnes of pellets per year if operated on a single shift (approximately 40 hours per week);
• be a safe, efficient and reliable producer of high quality pellets that satisfy the relevant European standards for wood pellets;
• use as a primary feedstock locally available sawdust and waste wood, which is mainly from radiata pine processors;
• be able to load pellets into 15 kg bags for domestic sales, or into a truck for bulk deliveries, or potentially into 1 tonne bulky bags; and
• be located in one of the existing buildings at Ling Siding.
